Esports Sound Latency, Sample Rate & Directionality Suite

Audio Latency & Spatial Sound Tester

Footsteps feeling delayed or muddy? Benchmark output buffer latency, test 360° HRTF sound localization, and eliminate sample rate resampling overhead in competitive PC games.

Base DSP Buffer Latency
--driver buffer

Native kernel ring-buffer delay reported by Windows WASAPI / CoreAudio before physical output transducer.

Engine State: SUSPENDED
Theoretical Buffer Delay
2.67 msmath latency

Formula: (128 samples / 48 kHz). Lower buffer = faster reactions; too low = crackling.

360° HRTF Spatial Footstep Directionality Test

Put on your gaming headset. Click around the virtual radar or start the looping footstep panner to test front/rear separation.

How to verify your headset:

1. When set to 90° Right, the footstep crunch should be 100% in your right ear without bleeding into the left ear.

2. When set to 180° Rear, the sound should feel distinctly behind your head via HRTF head-shadow filtering.

3. If Front and Rear sound identical, Windows 7.1 Virtualization or 3rd-party spatial audio is corrupting your stereo soundstage.

Calculated Pipeline Latency
2.67 ms delay

At 128 samples and 48 kHz, each sound packet spends 2.67 ms in memory buffers before reaching your ears.

Windows 11/10 Low-Latency Audio Tweaks Checklist
1. Disable All Audio Enhancements

Open Windows Sound Control Panel (`mmsys.cpl`) → Right-click Headset → Properties → Enhancements tab → Check "Disable all enhancements". This eliminates 15ms - 30ms of software DSP processing delay.

2. Lock Sample Rate to 24-bit, 48000 Hz

In Advanced tab → Default Format → Select 24-bit, 48000 Hz (Studio Quality). Unreal Engine, Source 2, and IW 9.0 natively mix audio in 48kHz. Setting 44.1kHz forces Windows to resample on every single frame, causing audio stutter.

3. Enable Exclusive Mode

Ensure "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" is checked so competitive games can use WASAPI Exclusive Mode for sub-10ms response times.

Hardware Upgrade

Switch from Wireless Headsets to Zero-Latency IEMs

Bluetooth and cheap 2.4GHz wireless gaming headsets add 35ms - 80ms of audio lag. Professional esports players use wired in-ear monitors (IEMs) for zero latency and pinpoint footstep staging.
